Book now onto our Walking Picnics for 2018
Here are the confirmed dates for our series of themed Walking Picnics for the Summer season of 2018:
Sat 14th April, 1pm Cuckoo walk in Latchmore Valley, meet at Abbots Well, Frogham.
We will walk through a delightful valley by the Latchmore Brook, watching for the return of Summer migrant birds such as the cuckoo, chiffchaff, willow warbler and redstart. Then back to our place in Frogham for a picnic in the garden.
Bank Holiday Mon 7th May Dawn Chorus and Breakfast in Latchmore, meet at Abbots Well, Frogham.
Starts at 7am, with a nature walk and the opportunity to listen out for and identify different bird song. Followed by a picnic breakfast in our garden with muesli, home made custard tarts, croissants, and savouries.
Sat 23rd June, 7pm Supper and Nightjar Walk, meet at Abbots Well, Frogham
We'll meet and take a short stroll to a perfect spot for a supper picnic beside the stream, then venture out onto the heath as the sun is setting, to hear, and perhaps see, the elusive Nightjar. The deer are more active at dusk, so we may get other sightings as well. Then back home for hot drinks and cakes round the bonfire.
Sat 21st July, 1pm The best of Summer butterflies, meet at Appleslade, Linwood
This is a tranquil walk through deep woods, where, on sunny days, the Silver-washed Fritillary is the queen of the forest butterflies. We should also see a range of other butterflies, and explore the site of an ancient hill-top settlement, before returning for a picnic on a pleasant, open lawn.
Sat 18th August, 1pm A musical picnic in the wood, meet at Anderwood, near Lyndhurst
Our other passion is folk music, and so on this walk Nigel will tell you about the folklore, play a few tunes on the mandolin, and we may even get a couple of songs from Christine during the picnic on an open lawn - that should amuse the ponies!
Sat 8th September, 1pm Berries, seeds and fungi, meet at Anderwood, near Lyndhurst This walk in the heart of the ancient forest will be looking for signs of Autumn, as the fruits and seeds emerge, and the first of the Autumn fungi are visible - we are just looking, not picking, or tasting! Followed by a picnic under mature trees on an open lawn.
All the above are open for individuals to pre-book, and cost £15 per person.
We are also leaving lots of space so we can provide specially arranged private Walking Picnics for a minimum of six adults. Get a group together and start talking to us about having a Walking Picnic just for you.
